Brian Clough was a successful manager of the English soccer club Nottingham Forest in the 1970’s and 80’s. Before awareness of the dangers of head injury arose, a humorous incident occurred when one of Clough’s players became severely concussed. The trainer reporting to Clough said ‘you’ll have to take him off as he doesn’t even know who he is’, to which Clough replied, ‘tell him he’s Pele and get him back out there’. Pele was renowned as the world’s best footballer. Over Easter, we’ve been looking at the resurrection of Jesus and the hope it brings to people today. The miracle of Easter is that God didn’t just revive Jesus as one who was concussed. He caused Jesus’ dead body to come back to life again, in so doing installing him as champion over the whole world, even superior to Pele! At St Peter’s we regularly run courses and bible studies for people, of any faith or none, wanting to understand what the Bible teaches about Jesus. We’d love to have new people join us. Information about what is happening can be found at our website (spsh.org.au).
