Scams are dangerous because they’re designed to look genuine. My wife has an aunt in England who has fallen victim to several scams, and we’ve witnessed firsthand their costly and distressing impact. An email looks like it came from the bank. A caller sounds convincing. A message warns of a problem needing urgent attention. A scam succeeds when something false is believed to be true. So how do we know what’s genuine? That’s an important question when it comes to God too. The Bible says God loves us—but perhaps you’ve wondered, “How can I be sure?” Romans 5:8 says: “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” God doesn’t simply tell us he loves us. He points us to the evidence: the cross of Jesus. Remarkably, God didn’t wait until we had sorted ourselves out or become good enough. Jesus died for us while we were still sinners. There are many people and messages we shouldn’t trust. But the Bible points us to someone we can trust: Jesus. To find out more, visit spsh.org.au
